Washington Nationals Prospect Sells Future Earnings to Startup
Agentiq, a startup backed by a $1 million pre-seed round from Silicon Valley VC firm Defy, has signed Washington Nationals prospect Ronny Cruz to a deal which will pay him up to $1.2 million in exchange for up to 10% of his future on-field baseball earnings. Structured through a Regulation A Tier 2 SEC offering with 12,900 shares available at $100 each, the platform is designed to give fans a regulated avenue to invest directly in an athlete's professional earnings. Agentiq's fee structure of approximately 7.5% of gross proceeds is lower than comparable platforms, and the company plans to build a secondary market for its shares and launch 10 to 20 new athlete series this year before expanding beyond baseball. If successful, the model would give sports fans a direct financial stake in athlete careers, rather than limiting their participation to speculative avenues like sports betting or collectibles.
